Director of Photography - Sarah Mehani

Teddy and his puppet, Tater, perform a weekly show at Smirk’s Playhouse, owned by his friend/mentor Ray Smirk. When an elegant woman is in the audience one night, she catches Tater’s eye and leads Tater to question his gender. Ray offers the two of them a gig opening for a big act so long as they can “prove it.” As Tater’s exploration of gender comes to light, Teddy must choose whether to support Tater or risk losing their chance at success.

This movie is near and dear to my heart because it parallels my own transition and the fear of losing opportunity, family and friends for allowing myself to just be. I hope that people see through this film that it’s okay to allow yourself to exist as you are, even if it means starting over. The people and opportunities that are meant for you will be there regardless.
